PGL Still Hope to Host the CS:GO Major in Stockholm

PGL have released an update regarding the situation with the upcoming CS:GO major. The company still hopes to host the event in Stockholm and is in a direct communication with the Swedish authorities. As of now however they do not have guarantees that the city will be able to accommodate the event and already consider several alternatives.

The plan for the major is to have a LAN-event with a large live audience of vaccinated people. Current local regulations in Sweden do not allow this to happen – however, these restrictions might be lifted after September 15th. Current rules would allow only 300 spectators within Avicii Arena with a capacity of 16,000, which is not acceptable for the organizers.

PGL revealed that two other European countries have offered them all the necessary guarantees to run the event according to the original plan. While the window to make the final decision is small, the company still hopes that the major will happen in Sweden. More updates are promised to be released soon.

PGL Major Stockholm 2021 is scheduled for October 23rd – November 7th and is the first major in two years. The tournament’s prize pool is set at a record-high $2,000,000. Earlier VALVE decided to relocate The International from Stockholm to Bucharest, Romania, due to similar issues with local restrictions.
