Smooya Joins Movistar Riders
The Spanish esports organization Movistar Riders has announced the fifth member of their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster – it is a 21-years-old AWPer from the United Kingdom, Owen "smooya" Butterfield.
Smooya, who started playing CS:GO competitively back in 2016, is mostly known for his time in BIG (2018-2020) and in Chaos E.C (2020). Late last year he also joined c0ntact Gaming for a trial period, but quickly left the team due to poor results.
The player joined Movistar Riders in January for a test period – although they failed to make it through the open qualifier for DreamHack Open January 2021, the team managed to win several smaller events. One of them, ESL European Championship Winter 2020, granted them a slot in the play-in stage of the upcoming $1,000,000 event IEM XV – World Championship.
Currently the team also takes part in ESEA Season 36: Advanced Division, where they are placed 11th in the group with a 2-1 score. Later this week they will also start competing at European Development Championship Season 2, which is scheduled for February 5th – 25th and will feature a $30,000 prize pool.
