Swedish Esports Association Confirms that TI10 Won’t Happen in Stockholm
The Swedish Esports Association has announced that The International 10 will not be held in Stockholm. Later tonight they received an email from VALVE that states, “the window of opportunity to course correct and still bring The International to Stockholm this August has closed”.
Earlier VALVE revealed that they are considering to relocate and reschedule the event. They explained that the Swedish Sports Federation failed to recognize esports, which made it impossible for TI10 to be classified as an elite sporting event. Without this status, it is much harder to get visas for everyone involved with the tournament. VALVE tried to find a solution with the local authorities but failed to do so. The Swedish Esports Federation claims that they found another solution that would allow the event to take place in their country, however VALVE had already moved on to look for alternatives.
VALVE believe that they will be able to organize TI10 this year in another European city. Earlier the German Esports Federation announced that their country is ready to host the event, noting that they have esports visas and great venues. Besides that, WePlay proposed to organize the event in Ukraine, while Epic Esports Events said that they are willing to host the event in Russia.
